IPL Hair Removal

What is IPL Hair Removal?

This is something we've been doing since 1998.

I can't really claim to be a pioneer as such, but mine was the tenth practice in Sydney to offer laser hair removal back at that time.

The main difference today is that treatments are much faster and much more comfortable and much less expensive.

Essentially, short sharp flashes of light, of the right wavelength and of the right intensity and duration (your hair can't really tell whether it's a true laser or an IPL machine doing the treatment) are flashed onto the hair-bearing skin.

Dark hair roots get hot, while the lighter surrounding skin does not.

That damages the hair follicle, so the hair falls out (then or later) and less hair grows thereafter.

That's it, in a nutshell.

What areas can be treated?

Commonly-treated areas include bikini-line, legs, armpits, forearms and faces.

Other areas - at the discretion of the therapist.

How many treatments needed?

Best results occur treating coarse dark hair on old thin white skin.

Poor results occur treating fine, light-coloured hair on young thick dark skin.

Everything else, and everyone else, is in between.

But *most* people get *pleasing* improvements after *several* treatments

Pain?

Despite what anyone might tell you, *if* the laser or light is killing hair follicles *then* you are going to feel it *unless* the skin is anaesthetised.

The hair follicles gets hot. You can feel heat, That's it.

That said, we help reduce discomfort by using a cooled gel between you and the IPL machine. That helps. The IPL itself has a cooling head. That helps too. We also have laughing gas on hand, if required.

But the main thing today is that IPL hair removal; treatments are not a fraction of the price they used to be. So, it is not necessary to push you to your limit in tolerating the treatment. Discomfort level should be no worse than annoying.

And the problem with fully anaesthetising skin for IPL hair removal is that *if* you can feel something *then*  we can be very certain the IPL energy level is not too hot *for you*.

It's a safety thing
