Thread-lifting is a technique to re-position facial structures with the use of threads inserted under the skin.
The threads themselves are made of the same sort of material as is used to make the stitches surgeons use every day performing surgery.
The object of the procedure is to support, suspend or re-position facial structures without the need for excising skin, and thus leaving no scar.
Effects, while durable, are not permanent, and therefore risks (relative to face-lift surgery) are reduced as well.
"Why can't my sagging cheeks just be re-positioned a little higher?"
This question is as old as time, and has been answered for the last 100 years by plastic surgeons performing face-lift operations (pioneered by French plastic surgeon Dr Suzanne Noel).
The face-lifts of today can have a dramatic and permanent effect, but such effects come at substantial cost.
A *thread lift*, on the other hand, is a tiny fraction of the price of a face-lift (and, to be fair, delivers only a fraction of the change, lasting a fraction of the duration of effect of a face-lift).
Under local anaesthetic, monofilament threads (roughly 10cm long) with tiny barbs are inserted along the line of lift sought.
The barbs attach themselves amongst the connective tissue under the skin, anchoring within the cheek at the lower end and within the scalp at the upper end.
Thus the threads serve to suspend the cheek at a higher position.
Whether threads are best for you should be explored in consultation.
Intuitively, brow-lifting looks like it would be an easy task for the cosmetic physician, but experienced doctors and surgeons know it can be surprisingly difficult to achieve a satisfying brow lift.
As the art exists today, I do *not* recommend using threads to lift a brow.
HIFU is a better option.
Using your fingers to push your neck skin to either side looks an easy way to improve the appearance of your neck.
It is therefore tempting to think *threads* could hold your skin back in the same way.
But they don't work. As soon as you turn your head left/right, the threads come loose.
The best way to improve your neck using threads is to have a cheek lift. This will, in turn, lift your neck skin *upward*.
We have other ways of improving neck skin.
