Chemical Peels
All skin solutions start with medically-based skin care with active cosmeceutical products. We use gentle chemical peels to hasten the results of our skin care regimes. Peels help us smooth the epidermis, lighten pigmentation, decongest pores, and reduce fine lines whilst giving skin a new firmness.
Glycolic acid and lactic acid peels
These “AHA” (alphahydroxyacid) peels gently exfoliate surface dead cells whilst improving dermal moisture. They generally need no specific preparation, but afterwards your skin carries a definite “glow” and your skin may flake for a few days thence. Because these peels are so gentle, they need to be repeated to bring about long-lasting skin changes. They are often performed once a week or fortnight at first, until their effect has been maximised, and then continued once a month or so to maintain the effect.
Retinol-based peels
Retinol, as the active natural form of Vitamin A, has a special role in the management of acne and pigmentation. So if acne is an issue for you and you want to avoid taking oral medications that may bring about side-effects, retinol-based peels can bring about benefits that ordinary creams cannot.
What about stronger peels?
Strong chemical peels have been traditionally used to remove the epidermis so as to stimulate new skin growth that is young-looking and very smooth. And such peels have been very successful. However, deep chemical peels have their drawbacks. If over-done, risks of pigment change and scarring come into play. For these and other reasons, alternatives have been developed.
Lasers and IPL treatments can do everything deep chemical peels can do, but with less risk and more certainty. Primarily, this is because lasers and IPL treatments can be applied with greater accuracy and reproducibility. Furthermore, in the case of treating pigment, lasers and IPL machines affect the melanin specifically without damaging the surrounding normal skin, whereas chemical peels are “colour-blind” in their effect, affecting all cells they contact regardless of their colour. Our peels are up-to-the-minute, and we use chemical peels when they represent your best option.
