FAQ

Liposuction

Can you treat lipomas by liposuction?

Yes! Soft lipomas can often be treated by liposuction, leaving only the tiniest of unnoticeable scars

Lipodissolve

Lipodissolve, what does it involve?

It is important to come in for a medical consultation with Dr Mahony , to ensure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure and to explain the treatment to you. A dose of PPC ( phosphotidylcholine - phospholipids that supply the basic structure of cell membranes) into the fatty tissue will cause the fat cells to break and open and release that fat. It also facilitates the breaking down of the fat itself. PPC destroys the fat cells, which then empty themselves of fat reducing the fat capacity of the area being treated.

Which areas of the body can be treated with lipodissolve?

We can treat your face, to remove double chins and jowling, for a better shape. Also the abdomen, arms, inner thighs, knees , as long as is a small area. If the area to be treated is too big, then a liposuction would be more appropriate.

How long is the downtime?

You will be able to go straight after work, especially for the first treatment. Later on the day, you will notice the treated area to start to swell a little, some pinkness and puffiness tell you the fat cells are breaking down. The effect is occurring only in the fat under the skin, where the needles reach ( about 13 mm) under the skin. There is no effect on any internal organ.
The day after the treatment, the area will look puffy, tender, like a local allergic reaction. This tells you the treatment is working. The next 2 days will be more comfortable and a couple more days will see all these effects disappear.

How many treatments do I need?

Usually, you need more than one treatment. The first session is necessarily a careful treatment with a low dose . The second session can be stronger, usually 1,500 mg of PPC. An average of 40% of patients notice a real change after 2 treatments.
The third session can involve up to 2,500 mg of PPC total body dose. After 3 treatments around 70% of patients notice a real change.

Why the first treatment needs to be with a lower dose?

Each person is different and we cannot be sure how vigorously your body will respond to the treatment. Some people get more puffiness and pinkness than others and those who get more reaction are glad, of course, that the first dose wasn't too strong.

Will the fat come back to the area treated?

The cells that we kill with PPC are dead and gone after the treatment, but if you eat foolishly and do not exercise , you will put on weight back on. But, your shape will always be better than it would have been had you not had the treatment.

Just 2 to 5 days .This garment will help to reduce the swelling and help bring about the most even result.

Fat Transfer

Can I have a fat transfer?

If you have too much fat in one area and not enough in other area, you are a good candidate for this procedure. If you have a thin aged face, as facial volume falls with age, ageing skin will not shrink sufficiently to remain taut over the face and wrinkles will result. So fat transfer can restore lost volume and rejuvenate your face. Younger faces are full of plump volume.

How long is the down time?

Bruising might occur , it could last 1 to 2 weeks, but it can be covered with mineral make up.

When do I see the final result?

In average, after a month you see the final result. In some instances the transferred fat will not take and so, some of the volume improvement seen immediately after the treatment will be lost. So a 50% loss is considered usual, even in the best hands of experienced doctors. Therefore, one needs a top up, The fat can be kept in a fridge for 12 months and still be useful for top ups.

How long does the procedure take?

A couple of hours, under local anaesthesia .

In average 1 to 2 treatments . The session is 45 min and costs $450.

What is the downtime?

You need to wear medical stockings for 2 weeks, to speed up the recovery process.

Laser & IPL Hair Removal

How does it work?

Laser or IPL hair removal treatments work in the same way, by heating hair shafts in the hair follicles. They work by damaging follicles with that transmitted heat. Heat hurts, therefore all effective treatments will hurt a bit.

Does laser treat all hair colours?

Laser and IPL treatments work better on dark hairs, the darker the hair, the better. The laser or IPL do not treat grey or blond hair . Also thickness of skin matters, the thinner the skin, better the result

How many treatments will I need and how often?

This varies from person to person. Generally, we recommend 6 to 8 treatments every 4 to 6 weeks, when the hair starts to grow back. After that, you may need maintenance treatment every few months. You should not wax between the treatments, only shave. The IPL also improves your skin texture, as well as reducing your hair . In average, you will get around 80% of permanent hair reduction and the hair that does come back will be much thinner and lighter.

Does it hurt?

In order to achieve results, you need to feel the treatment. It is not too painful, IPL has a good cooling system and we also offer " laughing gas" , if necessary.

e-Derma Stamping

What is e-Derma Stamping?

As with dermarolling , the principle is the application of tiny needles pricks ( under topical anaesthesia) in their thousands to the dermis. Each one creates a tiny perforation, which heals with a dot of collagen, and, if we are performing 36,000 perforations every minute, they all add up! Six needles per applicator, each creating a hundred perforations per second. About a million perforations per 30 mins, more than we can offer with dermal rolling. More perforation means more collagen, which leads to firmer and softer skin.

What is the down time?

You will experience some redness and tightness to the skin. It lasts 2 to 4 days. You need to apply our pos care products to help with the recovery. You can cover with mineral make up.

When can I see the results?

We recommend 3 treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart. The end result is 6 weeks after the last treatment. Your skin will be firmer with a better texture and less lines. Then a maintenance treatment every year is advisable . ( after all, time keeps passing).

Which areas can I have the e-Derma Stamping?

We can perform eDermastamping on your face, neck and under the eye area.

Is it painful?

For this treatment, we apply an emla ( to num the area) 30 minutes before the treatment, to ensure it is 100% pain free. After the treatment the skin will feel very tight and nay feel like a mild sunburn for 12 to 24 hours. After the treatment, you go under the Omnilux light to speed up your recovery.

Omnilux Phototherapy

How does it work?

The Omnilux unit is a bright light therapy of 633 nm, the orange, red part of the visible spectrum. While you are under the light, 633 nm photons penetrate deep into the dermis and sub dermal layers, sending signals that stimulate your skin's defense and repair mechanisms, without causing any damage. As you have more treatments, collagen is laid down and organised. This results in smoother and tighten skin.

How many treatments do I need?

We recommend a series of 10 treatments, coming twice a week. We also have a package to use the Omnilux light for 6 months, coming twice a week. It is a non invasive and pleasant treatment , so the more, the better for your skin. This is a one and only treatment that stimulates collagen without causing any damage to the skin.

I had a face lift and I am bruised, can the Omnilux help me?

Yes, you could come for a series of Omnilux treatments, around 6 , to accelerate your recovery, by reducing your bruising. This treatment is ideal for following most procedures, in order to speed up the recovery of your skin. It can also be used to heal acne, cuts and abrasions on your skin.

I have dark circles under my eyes, can the Omnilux help me?

Yes, you could have a series of Omnilux treatments to stimulate collagen in that delicate area , therefore improving skin thickness and texture under the eyes. In some instances a dermal filler in that area, might be advisable as well.

Photodynamic Therapy

What is PDT, photo dynamic therapy?

It is an excellent treatment for what we call " baby skin cancers" or "solar keratoses " or " actinic keratoses" and acne.
Many GP's or skin cancer doctors will use liquid nitrogen to freeze them and blast them off. This causes a blister, then a scab which heals with a big white spot.
Now PDT is performed to avoid this spotty appearance and PDT can also destroys the abnormal cells, before they become apparent to the naked eye.

Who is suitable for this treatment?

Anyone with sun damaged skin, blotchy pigmentation, scaly skin or acneic skins. This treatment will also even out skin colour and texture. For acne prone skin, PDT will work to destroy the over active cell lining the acneic glands. PDT is the most potent weapon against acne. , without resorting to oral medication.

What does the treatment involve?

We perform a microdermabrasion to clear the surface of the skin, then the Doctor will apply a solution- 5aminolevulinic acid , also called 5 ALA . Then you lie down in our dark room with that solution for 1 hour and the solution will do its job. The final step is to apply light, the Omnilux red light therapy which will activate the solution, by killing the skin cells and acne lesions, but the normal cells remain.

Does it hurt?

The final step, when you go under the light can be uncomfortable , the skin can become very hot and firm, it might sting a bit, but it will settle.

What is the down time?

After the treatment , your skin will become red and it will look and feel like a sunburn. The next day you will be more red, you should be out of the sun and take the day off. You can take nurofen ( if not allergic) and use ice packs to cool the skin. Be reassured that the more redness in the short term, better the results in the long term, you can also experience a break out, if you have an acneic skin. We can also provide you with our rehydrating and soothing creams to be used over the next few days as the skin is hot and tight.

What results can I expect?

Your skin will be smoother, less prone to solar keratoses, less prone to acne, even tone and firmer. The results are amazing.
